'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' dethrones 'Avengers: Endgame' as the highest-grossing MCU film in U.S. history
Tom Holland’s wall-crawler just rewrote the MCU record books. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now officially the highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film in U.S. history, overtaking Avengers: Endgame at the domestic box office earlier this week.
Per GamesRadar and multiple box-office trades, Brand New Day pushed past Endgame’s $858 million domestic lifetime total — a mark the 2019 Avengers finale had held for more than six years — to claim the domestic crown for the franchise.
A record-smashing run
Brand New Day didn’t just squeak past the finish line — it got here faster than any Marvel movie before it:
- Biggest domestic opening ever: roughly $360 million, edging out Endgame’s $357.1 million from 2019.
- Fastest to $500 million domestic: seven days, one better than Endgame’s eight.
- $1 billion worldwide in six days, and it has already overtaken Toy Story 5 as the year’s highest-grossing film.
One important asterisk
Here’s the part the viral posts tend to skip: this is a domestic record. Globally, Avengers: Endgame still wears the crown with roughly $2.7 billion worldwide, and Brand New Day — sitting near $2.2 billion — trails it by about half a billion. So Spidey is the new king of the U.S. box office, not (yet) the world.
Why it matters
It’s a statement about star power. A solo Spider-Man film out-earning a culminating, decade-in-the-making Avengers event on home turf suggests the wall-crawler may be the single biggest draw Marvel has. With Avengers: Doomsday still on the way, the studio’s box-office ceiling just got a whole lot higher.
Did Brand New Day earn the crown, or does Endgame’s worldwide record keep it the true champ? Sound off.
