Sony Accused of Blocking Discounted Marvel's Wolverine Pre-Orders on Brazilian Site

By BOSS KG•August 21, 2026

Sony has been accused of preventing discounted pre-orders of Marvel’s Wolverine in Brazil, after local retailer The Gamer Hut claimed it was told to either block voucher codes for the game or stop selling it altogether. The move, although not directly named by Sony in the retailer’s statement, is sparking fresh debate about pricing control and consumer choice as the platform prepares for major shifts in its distribution strategy worldwide.

Why The Pre-Orders Were Stopped

The Gamer Hut, well-known among Brazilian gamers for physical sales, announced the halt on its Shopee storefront following an “external” request to remove discount vouchers for the upcoming Wolverine game. The shop stressed that this decision did not come from the Shopee platform itself. According to The Gamer Hut, agreeing to block the legitimate site-wide coupons was not an option they could support. So instead, they chose to end the game’s pre-sale rather than restrict a benefit that’s standard on the marketplace.

What This Means for Players

While neither Sony nor PlayStation were specifically named in communications, the direction of blame is clear given the circumstances. The wider context is Sony’s plan to halt physical game production globally in the coming years, raising concerns about tighter control over pricing by reducing the ability to buy used games or access store-specific discounts. In this case, it’s noted that discount codes are a platform feature, not a retailer-specific rebate, but attempts to limit them for a major launch have hit a nerve with players in Brazil—a market highly sensitive to game prices. Notably, other major Brazilian retailers continue to offer Wolverine pre-orders with discount codes still active for now.
