Marvel's Wolverine Slices Past 1.9 Million Sales in Just Three Days
Insomniac’s latest superhero outing, Marvel’s Wolverine, isn’t letting internet memes or mixed reviews slow it down. In its first three days, the PS5 exclusive has already racked up 1.9 million sales, according to a fresh report. Despite divisive reception, the game has proven to be a commercial powerhouse—pulling in over $130 million so far and delivering a substantial early win for PlayStation.
Physical Discs Still Hold Their Own
What’s especially striking in today’s all-digital era is that over one-fifth (22.9%) of revenue came from physical copies. While the split still leans toward digital—heavier than previous PlayStation hits like Spider-Man 2, Astro Bot, or Ghost of Yotei—there’s clearly a dedicated audience keen to own Wolverine on disc. For comparison, Spider-Man 2 saw a 35% physical sales share, with other recent PlayStation titles sitting even higher. Analysts note that with the holiday season ahead, those physical numbers could yet climb higher, especially as Wolverine spends more time on store shelves.
Early Momentum and Player Crossover
Wolverine isn’t just outselling physical expectations—it’s also leaping past nearly every other PlayStation Studios game released this year, topping titles like Saros, Marathon, and Marvel Tokon out of the gate. The early adopter base shows strong loyalty: 82% of Wolverine buyers previously played Marvel’s Spider-Man, and 70% played Spider-Man 2. There’s also a notable overlap with Marvel Rivals’ player population—43% of Wolverine players have jumped into the hero shooter, too.
Despite ongoing social media jabs at elements like the game’s hand-holding design or “fart scent” trail, Wolverine’s claws appear unscathed when it comes to sales. Whether the conversation swings more positive or negative, Insomniac and Sony are already seeing Logan as an early winner for the PS5.
