Marvel's Wolverine Slashes Onto PS5 After Years in Development

Marvel’s Wolverine debuts today on PS5, marking the end of a long wait for fans of the iconic mutant. Announced back in 2021 with a teaser that simply showcased Wolverine’s famous claws, Insomniac’s action game endured a multi-year journey to launch— punctuated by unexpected challenges, including a serious hacking incident in late 2023 that resulted in early builds and unpolished gameplay leaking online. Despite these setbacks, Wolverine has finally made it into players’ hands, though not without a few battle scars.

Mixed Reviews for Logan’s Latest Outing

While anticipation ran high in the lead-up, critic reviews for Marvel’s Wolverine have been mixed—making it one of the lower-rated PlayStation Studios releases of the PS5 era according to some outlets. Points of praise focus on the game’s visual fidelity, strong character performances, and varied locations, but flaws have also drawn attention. One review highlighted that despite its faults, the game offers “an endlessly enjoyable superhero experience,” ultimately scoring it an 8/10. For completionists, guides are already available to help collect everything the game has to offer.

Community Divided on Wolverine’s PS5 Debut

The launch has sparked a range of player reactions. While many are eager to dive in immediately—or have already started—others are choosing to wait, citing review feedback, gameplay impressions, or simply a backlog of other titles. Some fans felt let down by the time between reveal and release, as well as leaked gameplay that tempered their excitement. Others, not influenced by scores, are choosing to wait for a price drop or a used copy, or look forward to playing the game when more time allows.
