The wait for a date is finally over. At the September 3 State of Play, Square Enix pulled back the curtain on the finale of its Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy — Final Fantasy VII Revelation — locking in a release date of April 8, 2027 and rolling out an extended gameplay trailer to seal the deal.

A name, a date, and a trailer

Revelation is Part 3, the closing chapter of the ambitious remake project that kicked off with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024. The title itself was first revealed back at Summer Game Fest 2026, but it was this State of Play that nailed down the specifics — an exact date and a longer look at how the finale actually plays.

After years of “coming soon,” fans now have a concrete finish line: April 8, 2027.

Everyone’s invited this time

Here’s the headline that changes the conversation: Revelation is launching simultaneously across every major platform — PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Xbox PC app).

That’s a major break from tradition. Both Remake and Rebirth arrived as PlayStation timed exclusives, leaving Xbox and Switch players on the outside looking in. This time, there’s no waiting period and no exclusivity window — the conclusion of one of gaming’s most beloved stories will be playable everywhere on day one. The Switch 2 inclusion is especially eye-catching given how visually demanding the series has become.

“Resolve” — the theme of the finale

Square Enix framed the central theme of Revelation as resolve: Cloud and his companions each confronting their own destinies and steeling themselves for the final battle. It’s a fitting note for a trilogy-capper — the point where the party stops running and turns to face what’s coming.

If Remake was about reintroducing Midgar and Rebirth was about opening up the world, Revelation is being pitched as the payoff: the march toward the climax that longtime fans have been bracing for since the very beginning.

Why it matters

  • It ends the exclusivity era. For the first time, the remake project isn’t locked behind one console — the widest possible audience gets in on day one.
  • It gives everyone a runway. A firm April 8, 2027 date sets a clear ~7-month countdown, so there’s finally something concrete to plan around.
  • It closes the loop. Remake (2020) → Rebirth (2024) → Revelation (2027). Whatever your feelings on the trilogy’s detours, we’re about to see how Square Enix sticks the landing.

For a generation of players who fell in love with Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and the rest — some back in 1997, others in 2020 — the ending of this remake saga is now officially on the calendar.

Which platform are you playing Revelation on — PS5, Switch 2, Xbox, or PC? And the big one: can Square Enix stick the landing on a story this beloved? Sound off.
